Who are we?

Owner - Kirsty Mitchell

I grew up on the small-holding in Cornwall where A Stable Start is held and I am huge lover of the outdoors and animals. I enjoy horse riding, running, cycling, coastal walking and gardening.

I attended a village primary school; it is here where I established my love of learning as a result of my incredible infant teacher. She inspired me to eventually go onto study at the University of the West of England, Bristol, where I obtained a BA (Hons) in Early Years Education. Here, I gained a wide range of experience in education settings including a Children’s centre, Private school, Mainstream Schools and in the Special Educational Needs sector. After I graduated I returned to Cornwall, where I taught in schools throughout the county, across the Foundation Stage, Key Stage One and Key Stage Two, as well as in a Special Needs (ARB) unit.

I recently returned from living in Exeter where I continued to broaden my teaching experience, working in a permaculture school (promoting learning in the outdoors), alongside supply teaching. Yet the majestic ‘pull’ of Cornwall, meant that I found myself returning, and wishing to provide a service that encompasses both my passions and strengths.

I believe that my extensive experience of varied teaching and learning approaches helps me to adapt a unique style to education, which is specifically suited to meet the child’s individual needs. Providing an enjoyable learning environment, that is effective in enabling children to be challenged, whilst feeling confident and comfortable to achieve their full potential.
